Preliminary estimates reported by the Labor Market Information Services (LMIS) division of the Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL) and the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) show a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 3.7 percent in March. This was a decrease from 3.8 percent in February and an increase from 3.2 percent in March 2020.

Today, Governor Laura Kelly announced a major step forward in the effort to modernize the state’s Unemployment Insurance (UI) system at the Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL). The agency issued its request for proposal (RFP) for modernizing the over 40-year-old computer system.

Kansas Senate Votes to Confirm Governor Kelly’s Labor Secretary Pick, Amber Shultz

In a 40-0 vote today, the Kansas Senate unanimously confirmed the appointment of Amber Shultz as the Kansas Secretary of Labor. Shultz will oversee the state Unemployment Insurance, Workers Compensation, Labor Market Information Services, Labor Relations, Legal Services and Industrial Safety and Health divisions.
